BackgroundOur world is changing fast - children have incredible opportunities to be immersed in the fast technological advances of IT and we live in an ever-increasingly "connected" world through smart phones, tablets and computers - children often know how to use a tablet computer before even being able to write their own names!
In parallel to the technological advances, children seem to be getting more and more pressure from schools to spend increased time indoors - focusing on academia and getting ready for school league table tests. And for many families there is limited time to enable the use of the outdoors due to modern day time pressures as well as heightened concerns for children's safety. |
Woodland Adventurers®
Woodland Adventurers® was established to enable a balance to the modern day forces and pressures on children. Based on a fundamental belief that children should have a "childhood", through playing and learning more naturally - including lots of laughter and joy! More akin to many Scandinavian countries where children's learning has a focus on embracing the outdoors, with more freedom to play and school age begins at 7 years of age.
Through a balanced approach, children socialising with their peers and exploring their learning in a more holistic way, supported by skilled facilitators, we believe that children will excel in their learning to much higher levels of attainment. Through making learning fun and capturing the children's imaginations whilst they are interested and "in the zone" we aim to achieve a "hunger" and "love" of lifelong learning.
When reflecting on our own childhood memories and personal advances in learning, we realised that key to achievement was having fun. Nine times out of ten this was through being trusted and respected by adults and usually through spending time in the outdoors, often close to nature - where the outdoors is so much more exciting.
Woodland Adventurers® aims to provide a more holistic approach to learning that is more inspiring and fun for the children so that they have better opportunities to reach higher levels in all areas of their learning.
